Brisbane’s life and cultural hub stretches 2km on the Southern banks of the river, which is now the thriving cultural heartbeat of Brisbane with large scale musical productions and art exhibitions. Not only is Southbank to be taken seriously with its art scene but it also has a playful side where tourists and locals can bask in the sun, visit cafes, walk forever or lounge about.

But do you really know EVERYTHING there? I don’t and I’ve been a gazillion times. Read on to find out the hidden gems of Southbank.

Amongst the cafes, beach and playgrounds there are hidden gems that not everyone knows about, Southbank’s secret spots.

First stop is Bacchus. Perched on the podium level of Rydhes Hotel at Southbank this indulgent LA styled hotel offers opulence and unpretentiousness while serving you a cocktail by the pool – a must for a lazy lunch and people watch.

Free herbs. You can now spice up your meal totally free with a selection of herbs growing along the riverfront at the northern end of Southbank. Planted in these garden beds next to the riverside path, in front of QPAC, sprout an impressive selection of greenery including lemongrass, basil, coriander, thyme, fennel, chives, sage, oregano and many more depending on the season.

Southbank’s BBQ facilities located at the picnic area of course (Picnic Island Green). These bbqs are totally free. No reservations so get in early.

Secrets of South Brisbane Heritage Trail Southbank is rich in history and hidden treasures and you can discover them all yourself with this trail.  Highlights include: A rivalry between north and south sides of the river; The Pearl ferry disaster; the US military’s presence on the south side during World War 2 and much, much more.

Take a close look; you’ll never know what you’ll discover.
