There are some mighty strange events that happen around the world. I googled weird events and what came up was both shocking and funny.

The shocking events are just different cultures, what we think is shocking is absolutely normal to that country, but they can keep those events right where they are. I’ve compiled a list of the funniest events you will ever see and you’ll probably end up asking yourself, why bother. I did, but then I realised, different strokes for different folks.

Golden Gumboot Festival (Australia)

Tully’s reputation as the wettest place in Australia has not dampened the spirit of the local larrikins in this far north Queensland town. The fact that the town gets around 4500mm of rain a year is cause for celebration as festival goers jump into a pair of gumboots and vie for the king of the gumboot games. There’s even a giant golden gumboot in town.

Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival (United States)

This three-day event celebrates duct tape, its enthusiasts and its wacky and fun uses. The event also honours the history and heritage of the city that is proclaimed the “Duct Tape Capital” of the world – Avon, Ohio, the home of Duct Tape.  From sculptures and fashion to games and a parade, everything at the festival revolves around duct tape and the city of Avon.

The Pub With No Beer Festival (Australia)

This event celebrates the true story of a convoy of American soldiers who drank Ingham’s Lees Hotel dry! When local resident Dan Sheahan rode in for a “coldie” and could only get a warm glass of wine, he was so inflamed he penned “The Pub Without Beer”, a poem which became Slim Dusty’s – and Australia’s – very first world-wide No. 1 smash hit. This year, the 71st anniversary will re-create the scandal complete with an American convoy of military re-enactors and descendants of Dan Sheahan riding to the pub.

The Songkran (Thailand)

Every April, to celebrate New Year, the world’s largest water gun fight takes place in the country of Thailand. And no, it’s not just some small isolated village. We’re talking about an entire country drowning itself with super soakers. But the fun isn’t limited to water guns, as some people prefer buckets or even elephants.

Baby Jumping Fiesta (Spain)

That’s not a typo, jumping over babies lying on blankets is the name of the game at this festival. Located in Castillo de Murcia, the fiesta is full of culture, religion, local tradition and heart-stopping suspense.

 World Toe Wrestling Championships (UK)

Ever fancied locking toes with a complete stranger? Toe Wrestling involves two people sitting across from each other with their toes interlocked and ready for battle. The loser is the contender whose foot is forced to touch the side of the ‘toedium’. Smack down!

International Hair freezing contest (Canada)

This fiercely-fought annual contest involves people freezing their hair in weird and fantastic shapes, using just water and the freezer.

Road Kill Cook Off (the States – where else?!)

Ever driven past some road kill and had the urge to eat it? Well, every year in Marlinton (somewhere in America) you can. This road kill cook off event allows locals to enjoy a day of tasting strange cuisine, shopping for local crafts, tasting local wines, and enjoying live entertainment.

Cow Chip Throw and Festival (America – Wisconsin)

For those of you that don’t know, cow chips are dry, odourless pieces of cow poo or dung. Yay! This festival, held every year in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin includes a cow chip parade, a cow chip-throwing contest, crafts, food, and of course, beer! The current cow chip-throwing record stands at 248 feet.
