Tis the silly season and New Years too and there are plenty of parties to attend and host before we settle into 2015. I’ve come up with and poached some easy tips to host the perfect soiree. Read on to find out how to lay the perfect dinner table, create just the right mood and an inviting space that will have your guests having the most fun ever.
Without further ado…
Firstly do have a party
Don’t be afraid to throw a party because you think it’s too expensive or maybe no one will show up. It’s not expensive and your friends will show up, they always do. Believe it or not you can have a good night with a $10 bottle of wine and a bag of salt & vinegar chips.
Do create ambience
I can’t stress enough how important it is to hit the nail on the head with this one. You need more than just great food these days; you need a well lit room. A low-lit atmosphere with candles can even make a pizza night memorable. No coloured candles, only ivory and white and no fairy lights.
Do linger at the table
When having a dinner party don’t tidy up too soon. Stay, chat and drink more wine. Once the plates are cleared away, often so is the mood. Stay put!
Don’t have loud music
When selecting music for your party or dinner get together, make sure you choose music everyone will know and it should be just loud enough so that people can have a chat above it slightly.
Do have drinks ready
Have drinks ready from the moment your gests step in the door. It shows you are ready to go and everyone wants one the moment they walk in too.
Don’t use paper napkins
Very tacky. Use cloth napkins they’re more formal.
Do use the good china
Don’t be afraid to use your finest china, silverware and crystal pieces whether you’re dining inside or out. This is an occasion don’t hide it away just so you can look at it, use it. It can make a casual event a bit more special.
Be ready when guests arrive
Plan ahead. There’s nothing worse than greeting your guest while you’re half dressed, lighting the candles and putting on some music. Get it together, you’ve had all day!
And there you have it, some simple do’s and don’ts to a great party. Feel free to use them and remember, getting your guests drunk always works too.
