New bar alert! The Gresham isn't your typical CBD bar. There are no jugs of Toohey's, no sticky carpets, and not a pokie machine in sight — just the way we like it!

This new bar in Brisbane is tucked down Gresham Lane just off Queen St; it reminds me of some cobbled laneway bar from a Jack the Ripper walking tour in London (weird association I know). Once inside it is rich in old world charm – Charlie Chapman and Sherlock Holmes would not look out of place here either.

This is a handsome bar with timber floorboards, high ceilings and huge leather sofas with a delicious whisky inspired cocktail list.

The Gresham windows swing open at 7:00 am each weekday morning when the heart-starting scent of coffee escapes from the grinders, but those after a harder drop will have to wait ’til the clock clicks over to PM and the cedar doors crack open in the main saloon.

Try their house cocktail 'The Gresham' with rye, cherry cola and lime with vanilla ice cream. A double whammy, booze and ice cream in the one glass, can’t get any better!

Lads and ladetts, if you’re looking for a Tooheys or XXXX Gold to be on tap after a hard day of city slicking, you’re not going to get it here. Most of the beers are a selection of craft beers and thirst quenching ciders. All cocktails are whisky based so if you’re new to the amber nectar this could be quite the learning experience for you.

However, having said that this bar also has a playful side where traditional whisky goers can comfortably share the bar with cocktail slurping hipsters, all well on their merry way to a darn good night.
