Whether it’s a corporate event, fundraiser or a new product launch, entertainment is a must. Be it in the form of a magician or a 12 piece orchestra. It’s literally the make or break of your event…along with the catering and venue of course.

I was telling you in a past blog about Madame Tussauds (Las Vegas) for a creative venue where guests were mingling, drinking and taking photos with their favourite celebrities….of the wax kind. That was the entertainment, the venue. Entertainment doesn’t always have to be music; the venue itself can be the entertainment. It’s a matter of thinking outside of the box.

Looking at the type of event you’re hosting is clearly the big clue in what to supply in the way of entertainment. Comedian, band or Dj is what comes to mind first. I say no to that, they’re old hat, good, but old hat.

Looking at what other event planners are doing for entertainment, i came across an event where they had dancing. Don’t get visions of people milling around on the dance floor swaying from side to side, but a live dance show. Reality TV shows like “Dancing with the Stars” have increased the public’s interest in dancing and performance shows.

So why not bring a little of that magic to your event? A dance show that includes live music, professional dancers and thrilling dance numbers.

Another idea that is circling (literally) in the event planning world is a circus, not a big top tent or clowns, but cirque style show. Imagine bringing the drama and amazement of the circus to your venue.  Elaborate yes, impossible no.

How many event planners would look into cirque style shows and circus themed events? If this is something you could pull off, you can guarantee your event will be the most memorable of them all…

Even if you’re hosting a small simple reception you can still provide unique entertainment. Try celebrity impersonators. I was at an event with a Pierce Brosnan, (James Bond) impersonator and it was hilarious. Magicians, jugglers, human statues and sketch artists to mix, mingle and entertain.

You don’t always need a large stage to entertain it is just daring to be different.
