One of the worlds most celebrated cultural holidays is St Patrick’s Day. The luck of the Irish, those lucky little Irish folk have all the fun.
Traditionally a cultural and religious holiday, St Patrick’s Day commonly celebrates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland during the 5th century and of course patron saint, Saint Patrick, as well as all things Irish.
St Patrick’s Day isn’t just for the Irish in Ireland, but a global celebration everywhere in the world where the Irish people have set up shop.
And set up shop they have on the Gold Coast. There are plenty of places to enjoy a cold frothy Guinness or five this Paddy’s Day.
Gold Coast’s 5 top pubs for St Patrick’s Day
- Darcy Arms, Surfers Paradise - your friends will be green with envy if they find out you went to Darcy Arms for an Irish breakfast.
- Fiddlers Green, Surfers Paradise - an Englishman an Irishman and a Scotsman walked into a bar and had such a great time it wasn’t funny.

Brisbane Irish Festival 2016
If you’re thinking of heading up to Brisbane for their annual Brisbane Irish Festival, you’ll have a good crack as the Irish love is alive and well in the river city.
The day is more than dressing in green and having a drink or two, (it’s the main part for most of us, let’s be honest) the cultural celebration will also include many fantastic festivities across the city, the biggest of which is the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade along with:
- Carnival ride for kids,
- Live Irish music
- Pipe band
- Irish dancing
- Gaelic sport exhibitions
- Tug-o-war
- And lots of Guinness
The festival will be held at the Queensland Gaelic Park in Willawong. For all the details visit their website.
